How Do You Do It?

As I am preparing for an upcoming show (Craft Show at the Downtown Farmer’s Market) I am finding myself a bit overwhelmed. I’m just wondering how other people deal with kids, significant other, work AND managing time for their art. I have a three-year-old that’s home with me during the day and I work until 11 or twelve 3+ nights a week.  I am having time management issues.

What do YOU do?

  1. Lists. Lists of those lists. Then a MASTER LIST of lists. Really. My first list is my freehand TO DO – it’s where I dump out everything in my head. Then I categorize that list into something more organized – home/craft/work…you get the idea.

Something else that helps? Once A Month Cooking and my handy dandy crockpot. For household issues, since we both work day jobs, we decided to hire out the housekeeping, the lawn and the laundry. It just makes more sense to create income for someone who ‘likes’ to do those things and let us do what we like to do than to begrudge ourselves those lost hours to household chores and run ourselves ragged trying to keep up with the business.

Are you in a Mom’s Day Out group? Could you be? If nothing else, you’ll get a day to do all your kid-free tasks in.

I hope you are taking the time to take care of yourself, too. I’m in that same time management crunch – not enough hours in the day to do all the things I need to do – even with another person to help!
