Monday is Etsy817 Day: Treasuries

Team Etsy817 has been busy showing their love for each other by creating wonderful treasuries featuring their favorite items from other members. I thought I would share a few of those today. Just click on the pictures to be taken to the collection.

Here are a couple that I created:

Crafty Superstar: Book Review

I work for a bookstore so I get to see all of the groovy art and craft books that come in. Some look really great on the first flip through but then once I purchase them and get them home it’s not nearly as relevant as I had hoped.

Then there are books like:

This book is a real inspiration for me.  My Southwest Meets Midwest crafting BFF, Lauren Lowell of Loved Again, and I used this this past summer when we did our first Farmer’s Market in Downtown Bloomington, IL. You will get to see more about that when I get my ‘ABOUT’ page finished.

The blurb on the back of the book reads “If the church-basement sale isn’t quite your scene, Crafty Superstar is your go-to resource for selling your crafty goods part-time. Packed with ideas for setting up and selling out, the book includes loads of advice from experts like Faythe Levine, Jenny Harada and Jenny Hart.”

The book contains check lists & questionnaires such as: ‘What Drives Your Craft?” , “Quiz: What Kind of Crafter are You?” (I am a DIY Butterfly) , and my favorite “Day-of-Show Checklist”. That last one has come in handy on more than one occasion.  Grace Dobush also shares secrets for selling on Etsy and at craft shows. She helps sort out what is considered ‘Indie’. You will find all sorts of worksheets and spreadsheets to help keep you organized. Organization is soooo not my strong point so everything helps!

In this book you can also find out how to set up your OWN craft show. Lauren and I actually did that this past summer. I will fill you in on how that went in a later post but very soon.  Stuck on how to display your items? It’s in there.

I want to go over every section in this book but then there would be nothing left for you to read. I will tell you though that the language is easy to follow and nothing, not even her price calculator template, made my head hurt and just about ANYTHING dealing with numbers makes my head hurt.

I love this book and hope you will at least pick it up and flip through it. I think you will find that it may be perfect for you or a friend. Let me know what you think.

Do you have a favorite crafting book? What is it? I’d love to know. I’m always on the look out.

Monday is Etsy817 Day!

I have decided that I will dedicate my Mondays to focusing on a new Etsy group I have joined…

I hope I heard a cheer from the peanut gallery. Etsy817 is a group of Etsy shop owners from Arlington, Texas and the surrounding areas. There are a few rules to join but nothing too difficult.

I will highlight different artists. I will discuss what we, as a group, are doing. I will share Etsy treasuries that include our members. Of course, I will have the links available to direct you to this very talented group of people.

Since this is the first posting and I haven’t had a chance to do any interviews yet I will start with a few of my very favorite items that have posted by just some of my fellow Etsy817 members.

My Muertos Doll by Longoria Girls.

Striped Elfin Hat by Coco 1981

Aztec/ Mayan Spirit Bird by Primal Aspects

White Ginger & Green Tea Soap from Clover Hollow

Male Sugar Skull Fused Glass Pendant by Larkspur Studios

'Together' 5x7 Frame by Funky & Feisty Home Decor and More

Please stop by for a visit and tell your friends too. To get to each shop simply click the picture.  Check back next Monday for more on Etsy817.

Some Blogs That I Hope Inspire Us Both

I’ve been gone a while. Did ya miss me? Truthfully I was starting to feel a bit bored with my blogging. I was in a rut. I haven’t had this one for long but I did have 1 Crafty Mom and 2 Ornery Kids over at Blogspot for quite a while. I had hoped that a whole new blog with an actual focus would help me feel more centered. I was VERY excited to find out that I had won an on-line blog workshop from Sunday Afternoon Housewife. I really think that this may be the extra oomph I need. We could both learn a lot through this.

My first assignment is to check out THREE craft blogs and critique them. I LOVE craft blogs so this was a lot of fun. Now I just had to find 3 I haven’t looked at before.

First I found Creativityismessy’s Blog. I liked it right away. She had just started a new feature called Four Fabulous Friday Finds.  Tera, the blogger, chose four items from etsy that she loves. She included pictures and links. I love her Avatar as well. Very cute. Her pictures are clear and professional looking. She was also having a give-away that I missed entry on by 4 days. I liked this one so much I subscribed. You can also check out her etsy shop at  She has a ton of cute stuff.

Next I traveled over to Naughty Secretary Club. What a fun site. She had some great ideas, featured a bunch of items from other authors and comes across as some one I could hang out with. She had banners for posted everywhere so I had to check it out. Was excited to see ‘The Crafty Chica’ on there. I adore her stuff.

From her blog I found one entitled Sounded cool so I headed over. There was a lot to like about this blog. Great pictures. Cool featured items. Cute stuff to buy. Nifty fonts. Yet,it kinda made me feel out of the loop. It was almost too busy for me. I felt like I should be really enamored with it but I’m missing something. It is intriguing enough that I will explore it further. I’ll let ya know if I ever figure out the punch line. I encourage you to head over though. Just because it’s not for me doesn’t mean you won’t like it.

I guess what I’ve learned from these is that I like pictures… and yet, strangely enough there are none so far in this post… I like it when people write in a way that makes me feel like they are talking directly to me and I like when it seems like I’ve found the ‘cool kids’. The folks that seem to be looking for new things all the time.  I’m excited to start taking on a a fresher look.

I love to get comments and suggestions. Feel free to help me out here. Let me know what is working and what isn’t.  Thanks!
