I love the holidays because there always seems to be an onslaught of craft fairs and other art events. I love perusing a craft fair almost as much as I enjoy being a part of one. I love seeing all these artists and what they come up with. Most of the time I am in awe of what I see and then there are other times that I’m just plain flabbergasted. I did a show a million years ago, back when I worked with polymer clay, and was stunned by the fact that the lady next to me who had hot glued lace to some light bulbs to make holiday ornaments sold out in only a couple of hours. Don’t get me wrong, I have seen some truly amazing things done with light bulbs… I regress…
Any way… I want to encourage everyone to hit some craft fairs and see what you can find. It is one of the best ways to get unique gifts. If you don’t notice any craft fairs in your area go on-line. Sites like etsy and ArtFire are treasure troves of amazing things. Some of my favorite things are handmade.
Scrabble Tile Pendants by Sunday Afternoon Housewife
ANYTHING made by loved again… Her clothes and dolls are made from upcycled materials.
Makayla Creations creates some absolutely ADORABLE clothes for little girls.
Original Youth never disappoints with her marvelous art work.
OH Yeah! And don’t forget Yours Truly!
This is obviously just a very small sampling of what is available out there. I hope you will check out the above artists simply by clicking on the pictures and move on from there. Keep watching because I will be sharing more later this week.
Do you ever just look at the stuff you make and think… ‘It kinda looks like a fourth grader did it’? I feel that way a lot., especially after I have checked out craft fairs or on-line craft sites. How do you beat these feelings? People order, people compliment but I don’t think I’ve found my niche. I see stuff that people swarm to and wonder if I will ever get to that point. If I will ever be the cool kid at the party.
Here are some things that have been helping to inspire me in my recent inspirational void:
“Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over it became a butterfly” ~ Anonymous
I also search out http://www.funkyfinds.com
Then there is this http://inspireco.blogspot.com/2010/11/inspired-ideas-christmas-issue.html (Which I found THROUGH Funky Finds)
Of course there is Claudine Hellmuth whose art showed me a whole new world. You can visit her here http://www.collageartist.com/
I also like to call on my friends and family and make them tell my how wonderful I am!
What are your inspirations when you are feeling down?
I guess for now I will just keep creating because it makes me happy. I will hold on to the hope that, as I create, I will grow and transform. I will
probably find my voice.
Hope y’all have a great day!
Hello world! I am a craft-aholic. I love to make things and search out cool things that other people make. I know what I like even if it sometimes seems to have no rhyme nor reason. I have recently started a business called:
Funky & Feisty Home Decor and More.
My goal is to make some money and to put smiles on people’s faces. There is definitely a learning curve. With every thing I make, every show I do, every show I attend, book or magazine I read, artist I meet, You get the picture, I learn something new.
Recently I opened an etsy shop and applied for membership in a local etsy group. I didn’t get in. It really stung at first; especially when the two women I talked into signing up got in. Here are their etsy shops: www.fluffygirlboutique.etsy.com and darcylucilly.etsy.com . As you can see both of these ladies are very skilled and talented. They have a certain polish to them that I hope to gain. I am working towards that.
This blog is going to be about my trials and errors in the craft world. I will share with you the ups and downs. I will also share with you book and magazine reviews, favorite artists, shows I am in or attending, favorite websites and e-shops. I also hope that you will share with me your hints, tips, joys and frustrations.
My guess is that you will also see changes in this blog as I go along and learn a bit more about wordpress. My first order of business is to figure out how to customize it a bit more but for now the hubby has taken the kids for a couple of hours and I have some special orders to make.
Here are some pictures of things I do…
